Toruń – 21-23 September 2018

Dogs are allowed on public transportation and trains, as long as they behave themselves, which Jack does.

The girls, Jack, and I met Brian at Poznań Głowny and took the train to Toruń. Riding across the bridge toward the medieval town excited us!

Toruń is absolutely magical at night!

Toruń is the hometown of Copernicus, a fact about which the town is quite proud. Here’s his statue in the old Town square.

While we ate breakfast, the candy shop across the street received a shipment of sugar. Of course, we had to visit! And Annora learned how to make a lollipop. 🍭

This fountain commemorates an incident in the town’s history when it was plagued by innumerable frogs. Janko the fiddle player pulled a pied Piper and enticed the frogs out of the town and back into the forest with his music.

These are incredible Polish donuts called pączki. We just had to try some! Impressive, right?! And they tasted even better than they looked!

The Living Gingerbread Museum was a blast!

Saturday night, we celebrated my 5th anniversary of being off meds! We ate a lot of pierogi, dumplings filled with different things like meat, potatoes, cheese, fruit, and even rich chocolate!

Sunday it was time to go on a dragon hunt. 🐉 But first, our fearless dragon hunter had to be properly outfitted.

Brian led us to the castle of the Teutonic Knights, which was destroyed by the townsfolk when they had had enough. After the initial ejection of the occupants, a committee was formed and plans were instituted to dismantle it. Huge sections of brick were taken and used for other building projects.

Annora taught Haven how to claim a castle as her own.

It was a good weekend. 🙂

Y’all. Polish food is so tasty!
